So, we’ve decided to do something different at the Serra academies and get involved with a little charity. Beginning this Monday, October 26, both the Huntington and East Meadow academies will be hosting the first ever SERRA BJJ THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE. If this goes well, we can host more charity events, eventually filling the world with guillotines and good will. Think about it.

For the food drive, we will be teaming up with Long Island Cares, a local organization dedicated to fighting hunger on the island. We’re looking to bring in as many food donations as possible for the upcoming holiday season, so that less fortunate families on Long Island have the chance to enjoy Thanksgiving as much as we do. The food drive begins MONDAY, OCTOBER 26, and lasts through November 30. Long Island Cares will be picking up donations on November 12 and December 1. The more food we have collected before November 12, the better.

A few notes: boxes and/or bins will be at both academies. Just drop in your NON-PERISHABLE food items and pat yourself on the back for doing a good deed. Anyone who brings in three or more food items can enter a raffle for some cool prizes (Serra gear). That's one raffle ticket per every three items donated, so donate away, and win something for yourself. Donate the most items total and the guys at Serra will think of an extra nice prize for you too.

Some suggestions on Thanksgiving-themed items you can donate include canned vegetables, canned beans, instant mashed potatoes, stuffing mix and gravy but you can obviously donate any non-perishable food items you choose. A detailed list of recommended items will be available at both academies. Please remember to give, give, give.

Turtle soup?

Just a reminder that the Serra BJJ Thanksgiving Food Drive begins today. So stop by the supermarket, raid your mom's kitchen pantry, or pick up a few cans of soup from 7-11.
